I would hate to have fished with John Steinbeck…it would have taken him fifteen minutes to tell you he caught a trout, five minutes to tell you what kind it was and when he was done, you’d feel guilty that he caught it. Hemmingway would be OK but Marcel Marceau would be the best…I wouldn’t want to be seen fishing with him though.

It’s amusing to listen to the newer members of the fly fishing brotherhood brag about their accomplishments, bravado and skill; each trying to convince the other that he is the better fisherman. Their older more seasoned brethren quietly smile knowingly. These more seasoned anglers no longer rave on about their exploits. They have learned through the years that bragging will not validate their worthiness and as to who is the best angler - the old timers no longer try to prove this…the wisdom of their many seasons has taught them that those needing to be told are never able to recognize true talent even when-he’s-staring-them-in-the-face-telling-them-so!
